Baseball: Lions rain on Cornell's parade4/18/11 2:10amAndy SeifeOn an overcast day at Robertson Field at the Baker Athletic Complex, the Columbia Lions played host to the Cornell Big Red. The first of two games in a doubleheader was a pitcher’s duel from start to finish, and both teams were only able to manufacture one run each off of sacrifice flies. Bottom of the sixth, Columbia’s Nick Crucet leads the inning off with a double in the right center gap. After a ground-out advanced the runner, Jason Banos, currently batting .321 for the season hit a bullet past the diving Cornell first-baseman Frank Hager to give Columbia the lead. Banos would be tagged out going for a second, but the damage had been done. Pat Lowery gets a long awaited first win of the season. The rains came down in game 2 and the two teams only got through six and a half before the game was called. That was plenty of time for the Lions to put a hurt on the visiting team, winning game 2 12-2. Columbia goes on the road to take on Princeton in a total of four games on Saturday and Sunday. |
