Black Heritage Month kicks off2/15/10 2:45amEvan ShaverEach month at Columbia, we celebrate a different piece of our diverse student body through Heritage and Awareness Months. This month, we celebrate Black Heritage Month. CTV News sat down with Mark Browning, the Culture Show Coordinator for the BHM Culture Showcase, to learn more about Black Heritage. "Black Heritage Month is really more about how people of African descent, like across the globe; what their contributions are. Like, what contributions have they made to society," explained Browning. This year’s Black Heritage Month will culminate in a Fashion and Culture show, which celebrates the past in order to understand and appreciate the present of black heritage. "It’s not just going to be like a showcase of performances," Browning continued. "We are actually going to have a story that goes along with the theme of this month, which is Molding our Identities." CTV News will continue to give you updates throughout the month as we continue to celebrate our diversity here at Columbia. |
