GCC: Bridging the gaps between China and the US9/21/09 3:50pmMichelle YuanMost student clubs stop activities when the spring semester ends. The Global China Connection, however, used this summer as an opportunity to expand their organization. "Our summer was definitely characterized by opportunities and our collective effort and collective commitment in following through with these opportunities and making the most of them. We were able to work with the student government unions and the top individuals in China." "We got to meet the director of UBS China, David Lee and Microsoft and Google Director Lee Kai Fu. With GCC and its members, we provide the opportunity for everyone to really get a chance to go these conferences and meet these people." "GCC has been well received in the networking events that have been hosted in these cities. Westerners as well as Chinese people come to these events. It’s a great opportunity for them to mingle as well as exchange ideas." In addition to a greater focus on pre-professional events and panels of speakers, GCC underwent structural reorganization. "In the past we had three very distinct divisions of work: network, business development, and program management. Now, we have really gotten into building more transparency and more cohesiveness within our executive structure. So we have a nine person board of directors." Following a successful summer of events and changes, much more lay ahead for the future of GCC. "I think the goals of GCC are actually never going to end. The idea is to create a continuous cycle, to always have a platform for youth and people and young professionals that are interested in learning more about China or more about China’s development and how that’s going to work with the international community. And hopefully that’s going to continue long after the current board of directors have graduated." |
