Feel Good with Grilled Cheese9/30/07 7:00pmIsobel RubinColumbia students searching for a late night snack on campus have a new option: Grilled cheese sandwiches. Students have opened up a stand in JJ's place as part of Feel Good, the university division of the World Hunger Project. Buying a grilled cheese sandwich can make you feel good on two different levels. Besides filling your own stomach, you help to end the hunger of the more than 800 million starving people of the world. There's one big difference between Feel Good's fare and the other snacks at JJ's - all proceeds from the organization's grilled cheese sandwiches go to the World Hunger Project, with the goal of creating a sustainable system in poverty-stricken countries. Vamsy Bobby said, "Just like the name says, it makes me feel good." Feel Good started at the University of Texas, and there grilled cheese meant over $10,000 by the end of the organization's first six months. Currently 10 American universities have opened up their own chapters. Dana Pavarini, the president of the organization, said, "The premise of the group is that we make and sell grilled cheese sandwiches with 100% donated products and then 100% of the profits go to the World Hunger Project." Mike Wymbs said, "It's some of the best grilled cheese I've ever had. What more do you want me to say?" Successful thus far, Feel Good at Columbia hopes that its grilled cheese sandwiches will soon become a staple on campus And Austin Carr summed it up with, "They're just flying off, like hot cakes if you will." |
